Family and Domestic Law
The terms Family Law and Domestic Law are often used interchangeably in South Carolina. They both refer to the body of law that governs disputes related to marriage and family. Family Court is the place to file all private legal actions that involve separation, divorce, and child custody, visitation, and support. Family Court judges also preside over actions initiated by the Department of Social Services (DSS), and cases that involve juveniles that have been accused of crimes.
